The European nights are back in the Santiago Bernabéu and the Spanish giants are eager to win the Champions League trophy this season. Real Madrid humilliated Tottenham with a 4-0 win, in a game where Cristiano Ronaldo made his return, even though he's clearly not at 100%. José Mourinho was aware of that risk, but decided that this was a decisive moment for the outcome of the season, and therefore, and with Cristiano Ronaldo agreement, Real Madrid played his best eleven from the start. Adebayor gave the "Merengues" the lead and also scored the 2nd goal, later on the match. Di Maria then scored a wonder goal, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, finishing a Kaká's cross with an outstanding volley that only stopped in the end of Gomes net, Tottenham's goalkeeper tonight.

Real Madrid will travel to London next week, with a comfortable 4-0 victory in their pockets. José Mourinho and a few squad members asked fans to turn out in force to welcome Tottenham and the Santiago Bernabéu responded as only it knows how. The "Merengues" played a sensational match, controlling the tempo of the game and practically sealed their place in the semifinals with 35 total shots, and almost half of them by Cristiano Ronaldo. The second leg at White Hart Lane won’t come easy for sure, but the four goal cushion is a tough uphill battle for Tottenham to overcome next week.

A magical night in the UEFA Champions League action couldn’t have gotten off to a more perfect start than this. Real Madrid received their first corner of the match on the 4th minute and Adebayor met Mesut Ozil's cross to make the first goal of the match, following a light deflection by Lucas Modric. A decisive moment occured when Peter Crouch was sent off, ten minutes later after a rough tackle on Marcelo and the Spurs were reduced to ten men with more than an hour still left to play. The English side retreated to prevent the match from getting out of hand, but Real Madrid took their time and slowly managed to create more chances to score, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading many offensive dangerous plays. With four minutes to play in the first half, Angel Di Maria's strike was cleared by handball, by Michael Dawson, but the referee looked the other way much and didn't point to the penalty spot..

Real Madrid set their sights on Gomes after the restart. The players were aware that it was a momentous occasion to return to the Champions League semifinals and they played very motivated, despite the loss against Sporting Gijon in the last weekend. On the 56th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo quickly took a corner kick, with a short pass to Marcelo, who decided to curl a cross into the box, destinated to Adebayor's head, which once again, met Tottenham's back of the net.

With the match well under control, Lass Diarra, Gonzalo Higuain and Kaká all came off the bench and Real Madrid continued to pursuit the goal. Angel Di Maria scored what can be seen as the best goal of the night, around the 71th minute, with a magical shot into the corner, but CR7 would have the final say. With only three minutes left in regulation time, Cristiano Ronaldo struck gold with a first touch volley and the Santiago Bernabéu went wild. Real Madrid still have the return leg to play in London, but barring a disaster, the "Merengues" will be playing in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, against either Shaktar or Barcelona.
