Digital collectibles have quickly become one of the most talked-about trends in sport and entertainment. Among the athletes embracing this new space is Ronaldo, whose partnership with Binance introduced a series of NFTs that give fans a different way to connect with his career, legacy, and exclusive experiences...
Cristiano Ronaldo is not just a footballing icon; he is a pillar of society and a man that millions identify with all around the globe. Not only that, but Ronaldo is a businessman. Meaning he is always looking at ways to use his following to both give back to those who have supported him and also expand his portfolio even further beyond the realms of football, a world that frequently involves discussions about football predictions. And that is nowhere more apparent than in the Binance scene, where his range of NFTs provides fans with a chance to get their hands on a little bit of commemorative memorabilia of his illustrious career. But just what is an NFT, why does he have one, and how does it work?

NFTs are also known as non-fungible tokens and are essentially unique digital assets that are stored on a blockchain and serve as proof of ownership for various digital items and content forms.
Unlike other assets and cryptocurrencies within the digital space like Bitcoin, NFTs are distinct and unique, meaning that, once owned, they cannot be transferred and exchanged in the same one-to-one manner.
They act as digital collectibles, in the same way you'd get a toy from a special edition Happy Meal… albeit a lot more high profile, and a lot more exclusive too.
They can appear in many different facets, anything from art pieces to virtual real estate, and are most commonly authenticated through a secure digital ownership certificate which is commissioned online and ensures the authenticity that what you have is rare and unique.
Ronaldo launched his NFT series at the beginning of last season, with Binance commemorating his path to stardom and releasing NFTs revolving around each stage of his legendary career.
The collection is called "Forever Worldwide: The Road to Saudi Arabia", a pretty fitting name for Ronaldo's career, and it collaborates with artists from each of the countries in which his career frequented – those being Portugal, England, Italy and, of course, Saudi Arabia.
The NFTs dropped in two instalments, the first including the adventures in his early career, with artists such as Katt Phatt (Madeira), Rodrigo Doin (Lisbon) and John Sheehan (Manchester) creating the unique artwork.
The second tackled the back end of his career, if you can call his stint at Madrid that, with artists Lisett Ledon (Madrid), Pasquale Garibaldi (Turin) and Shaker Kashgari (Saudi Arabia) all contributing to the work.
On top of that, seven even rarer NFTs were released at a later date, created by Portuguese street artist Mr Dheo, to detail Ronaldo's illustrious international career.
The collections also had, and continue to have, some real-world rewards too, such as the chance to get vintage shirts, tickets, and posters signed by the man himself.
Ronaldo has spoken openly about these NFTs and sees them as another way he can give back to his supporters and interact with them in a variety of different ways.
With all of the extras and experiences, such as meeting Ronaldo, attached to the digital collectibles, it gives fans a chance to support their icon in a plethora of new and exciting ways and create a more intimate connection with CR7 than just watching him from afar.
The NFTs and Binance in general have been a fruitful and exciting partnership for Ronaldo for some time now, and he is looking to continue providing fans with unique and never-before-seen opportunities to interact with one of the footballing GOATs.
