Goals Ronaldo has broken and remaining records

Cristiano Ronaldo making an effort

Few names resonate in the world of international football as much as Ronaldo. Throughout more than two decades he kept an unreal level, while other hot shots in soccer normally reach a climax in their careers before their 30s and slowly fade out until they eventually retire...

One of the accomplishments that solidifies Cristiano Ronaldo in many’s minds as the all-time scorer of the sport is perhaps the greatest record that he holds – 954 career goals – which takes domination of the sport on a level that has never before been seen, though he has had competition from Lionel Messi. The difference that he makes in games makes him the biggest focal point in any game he plays in, swaying sports betting online single-handedly. Now he is eyeing a milestone only he has a chance currently at achieving – hitting 1,000. Right now, everybody worldwide is dialed in, waiting to see if Ronaldo can hit that mark. Many people believe none of his successors will ever have a chance of hitting it if he eclipses that.

Ronaldo's records

His permanent ink in the history books though goes way beyond just a single number, nor is he done yet. Let’s take a look at the rest of his track record.

UEFA Champions League

He plays a league within another league here. He just kills it right when the fans and teammates need him too most, whether that’s in Manchester, in Barcelona, or Riyad

183 appearances & 140 goals

Both of these are more than any other player in the tournament ever.

17 goals

He totally put on a clinic in the 2013-2014 season, the most ever in a season, for Real Madrid. The team got their tenth European title.

7 seasons

He led the league in scoring, every single year from 2013 to 2018.

67 goals

The most ever in knockout stages. These would’ve been close games but the Ronaldo factor made them blowouts instead.

3

Champions League finals that he scored in, all pivotal.

11 consecutive such matches he scored in

The only player ever to do so. He never turns of the gas.

5-time champion

Only player to do so, which he did for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

UEFA Club Competition

Across these competitions to he’s set challenges for any young flegling start to set their eyes on.

197 & 145

Appearances,in such tournament games, more than anyone else ever. Same for the number of goals the glorious marksman has knocked in.

4-time

Best Player award winner.

15-time

Fan-voted team of the year nominee. No other player comes close, and people vote for him from Australia to Baikal to Senegal to Peru to Canada.

UEFA EURO

Here, Ronaldo established himself as an international icon.

6, 30 & 74

Final tournaments he played in, the most ever, 30 matches total. If qualifiers are included, that’s bumped up to 74.

14 & 55

Finals goals, 55 including qualifiers.

EURO tournaments scored in, spreading from 2004 to 2020.

3 or more

Goals scored at multiple EURO finals, a truly rare record. In 2016, he took Portugal to their first major international title, despite suffering an injury in the final.

FIFA World Cup & International

He’s done it all over the globe of course.

5 & 10

Different FIFA World Cups he’s scored in, along with a ridiculous ten hat-tricks scored in international football, both unprecedented.

52 & 22

matches featured in the World Cup and Euros. 22 goals he’s score din both of them combined, the all-time leader.

221 & 138

Most international appearances ever. In them, he’s scored 138 goals.

Records he may yet break

Does Ronaldo's trophy cabinet ever fill up? The awards he’s gotten have at least filled up this page. No doubt his cabinet goes on for miles. He’s never satiated though, and he wants to keep it going for God knows how long. He’s 40 years old, as of late, all kinds of star players in different sports have been breaking age ceilings, since players are treated with kid gloves now and the lack of injuries allows stars to play for longer. It’s also a testament to his resilience and training though. Let’s marvel at the awards that can add to his legend.

1,000

Where all eyes are. There exist opinionated people out there actually arguIng Pelé has amassed more goals, since they argue that he’s scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games. However, this isn’t officially recognized since a lot of that came from exhibition and military service games. Still, some claim that these were indeed competitive then so they should count.

Ronaldo’s goals were all scored in top-flight competition though, and his main focus is on that 1,000 mark.  He would be considered the only one to ever go north of that ridiculous limit.

6

Different FIFA World Cups scored in: this would be a first as well.

66

Career hat-tricks he’s gotten, which is absolutely insane. Still, once again, Pelé enters the picture with a claimed 92. The closer he gets to Pelé’s records, the more he overshadows his claimed records.

900

Official club-level goals.

11

Hat-tricks in the Saudi Pro League, which he now plays in.

What makes him great

There are many people who are born with exceptional speed, height, and just a natural aptitude for controlling the ball. Ronaldo was not one of those people. The Portuguese boy from Madeira credits everything he’s done to his sickening work ethic. He came from a simple family, the son of a gardener and a cook. They didn’t have much to live on. He wasn’t fed with a silver spoon. He was always taught to fight for everything he ever got.

He moved to a sporting academy at just 12 years old, separating from his family. He did this of course out of his intense ambition to become a great footballer. He said of this period: "I was ironing my own clothes when I was 11 years old. My mental strength goes back to those days."

His big break came in 2003 when he signed with Manchester United, playing for Sir Alex Ferguson. He’s also always had an intense belief that he forced himself to adhere to. He doesn’t believe being humble serves you. He said that if you want to be the best, you have to believe you’re the best.

Other greats

Here are some other soccer legends.

Josef Bican: Playing from the 1930s through the 1950s, primarily in Austria and Czechoslovakia, he reportedly scored over 805 official goals in competitive matches.

Romario de Souza Faria: like Pele, he claims to have scored over 1,000 goals, but many of these matches were friendly. Still, he was a master of the game, and is now a senator.

Lionel Messi: He’s scored over 850 official goals for club and country. Like Ronaldo, Messi maintains meticulous training and a relentless drive to break records.
