30.01.2021 » Sampdoria 0-2 Juventus. Chiesa and Ramsey secured the win

Cristiano Ronaldo in action in Sampdoria vs Juventus

Juventus collected the 3 points today against Sampdoria, after beating their opponents by 2-0 at the Luigi Ferraris. The Bianconeri goals were scored by Federico Chiesa in the first half and Aaron Ramsey in the second.

Juventus remain third on the Serie A table following today's 2-0 victory over Sampdoria, 5 points behind Inter and 7 points behind the league leaders, Milan. However, the Turin side still has one game in hand, which, in the event of winning it, may allow them to cut the gap to a shorter 4-point difference. This Saturday Andrea Pirlo made easy work of Sampdoria, even though they only sealed the deal inside the second half injury time, when Ramsey scored against an empty net. Earlier on, Chiesa had already opened the scoring charts in a great team play from the Italian champions. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't score this weekend, but he was very important in the build-up for both of this team's goals.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Sampdoria:

Building confidence with wins...

It's fair to start by noting that Juventus didn't deliver a great performance against Sampdoria. The Vecchia Signora managed to control their opponent and didn't really allowed them to create any great opportunities to score today, but on the other hand they've also struggled to be a dominant force when reaching the last third of the pitch.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has already scored 15 goals in the Serie A this season, couldn't get his name on the scoresheet today, but he did get involved in both goals, creating spaces and "pre-assisting" his teammates.

With today's victory, Juve have now earned 8 wins in their last 9 games in all competitions, having lost only against Inter Milan on January 17. The chase to both Inter and Milan for the top spots of the league will continue in the following months and it's important to be aware that there's still a very long distance to run.

This Saturday, Pirlo played one of his strongest lineups with Szczesny in goal and a back four with both Danilo and Cuadrado on the wings, backed up by Bonucci and Chiellini in the centre. In midfield, the champions played with McKennie, Arthur and Bentancur, who tried to feed an attack formed by Chiesa, Cristiano Ronaldo and Álvaro Morata.

Chiesa and Ramsey delivered the goals...

The opener was scored in the 19th minute of the first half, after a splendid play where both Ronaldo and Morata combined extremely well. The Spanish forward found a breach in Sampdoria's defense and exploited it to the full by assisting Chiesa in the centre of the box, allowing the Italian international to score from a short distance and collect his 6th goal of the season in the Serie A. That's the type of passing and movement this team needs to see more and hopefully this a sign of what we can expect from now on...

The first half finished with Sampdoria still looking to get their first shot on target, but with a single goal setting the two teams apart, everything was open for the second period.

After the break, Juventus tried to slow down the pace of the game even further, which is always a dangerous strategy that already has costed the Italian champions several points this season. Fortunately for Andrea Pirlo's men, Sampdoria was definitely not having a good day and Szczesny didn't have much trouble throughout the entire game. The visitors secured the 3 points in a pure counter-attack play in the 91st minute of the game, when Ronaldo's long pass found Cuadrado with plenty of space behind Sampdoria's defense. The Colombia international then assisted Ramsey for an easy finish and Juventus was certainly happy to bag a 2-0 win in Genoa.
