03.01.2021 » Juventus 4-1 Udinese. New year, same Ronaldo!

Cristiano Ronaldo scores two goals for Juve against Udinese

It was a good start of the year for Juventus, as the Italian champions made easy work of Udinese and beat them 4-1 at the Allianz Stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo added two more goals to his books, while Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala scored one goal each.

Juventus started the 2021 year on a good note, after hosting and beating Udinese by 4-1 in Turin, thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Federico Chiesa and Dybala. Unlike their previous match against Fiorentina, this time around the Italian champions delivered a solid performance, with a competitive attitude from the beginning to the end. Ronaldo paved the way to the 3 points tonight, scoring a goal in each half and cementing his status as the Serie A top scorer this season. The Portuguese star has already scored a total of 14 goals in the league, two more than Inter's Romelu Lukaku and four more than AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

New year, same Ronaldo!

The Italian champtions opted to not change too many pieces in their starting lineup for this Sunday's encounter against Udinese. Sarri was forced to make a change in his back-four though, since Cuadrado was shown a straight red card and was suspended for tonight's game. His natural replacement was Alex Sandro, who played next to Bonucci, De Ligt and Danilo. Szczesny kept his starting spot in goal. The Bianconeri's midfield didn't suffer any changes, as McKennie, Ramsey, Bentancur and Chiesa powered up the "Old Lady" and supported the attacking duo formed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala. The Argentine ace replaced Álvaro Morata in the Italian champions' attack...

Juventus are under huge pressure in the Serie A, especially after the 3-0 loss against Fiorentina in their last game of 2020. Another loss today would mean the Bianconeri would stay 13 points behind the league leaders AC Milan, just before visiting the San Siro next Wednesday. The Italian champions do have one game in hand though...

After having won the "Player of the Century" award just a few days ago, Cristiano Ronaldo showed why he is one of the most lethal strikers in the game, even at the age of 35 and just a few weeks before turning 36. All he needed was one chance tonight and he had has his opportunity to make his opponent pay when Ramsey managed to steal the possession in an advanced area of the pitch and immediately serve his Portuguese teammate. Ronaldo, as usual, showed no fear and charged into Udinese's box, looking for a good position to strike the ball. He found it after cutting inside while running at full speed and his shot gave no chances at all to Udinese's goalkeeper, making it 1-0 for Juventus.

Udinese was no match for Juventus tonight...

The second half basically started with Juventus getting their second goal of the night, this time with Cristiano Ronaldo assisting on of his teammates. The Portuguese forward found Federico Chiesa running into the back of Udinese's defensive line and with a well-timed pass, the Italian star only had to beat the visitors' goalkeeper. The 23-year old kept his composure and used his left foot to strike the ball and make it 2-0 for the hosts.

The match was totally under control by Juventus, but the champions knew they needed to perform well tonight in order to redeem from the disappointing game against Fiorentina, so they kept pushing forward. The third goal took place around the 70th minute, and again, Cristiano Ronaldo made sure his name would be on the scoresheet. In a pure counter-attack play, the Portuguese forward received a good pass from Bentancur and with just the goalkeeper in front of him, he showed no mercy and finished the play with a well-placed low shot. That was 3-0 for Juve and game over for Udinese.

Before the end of the game, Udinese would still reduce the lead to 3-1 when Marvin Zeegelaar beat Szczesny in the 90th minute, but Juventus responded right after by Dybala and made it 4-1.

Next Wednesday Juventus will play one of their most important games of the season, as they prepare to visit San Siro to face AC Milan. Even though we still haven't reached halfway in the league, a loss in Milan will most likely mean that the title hopes will be crushed, since the Rossoneri will then have a 13-point lead over the Bianconeri, even though Juventus still have one game in hand.
