22.12.2020 » Juventus 0-3 Fiorentina. The champions were humiliated at home

Ronaldo frustration after seeing Juventus losing 3-0 vs Fiorentina

And just like that, Juventus unbeaten run in the Serie A was broken, as the Italian champions got beaten by 3-0 at home, against Fiorentina. It was an awful match from the Bianconeri, who were forced to play with 10 men for more than 70 minutes...

This Tuesday's game couldn't have gone worse for the Italian champions, as Juventus hosted Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium and were handed a harsh lesson with a 3-0 defeat. Cristiano Ronaldo, just like the rest of his team had a really bad night and at some point in the game, it just looked nothing was working as it should and that the best thing to do was to simply wait for the referee's final whistle. However, the key moment of the game happened still in the first half, when a ruthless tackle from Cuadrado let the referee no option but to show him a straight red card. The Vecchia Signora are now even more behind the league leaders AC Milan and they need to improve a lot in 2021 if they are still serious about challenging for the title.

The end of a long unbeaten run...

It was a shocking result the one Juventus earned this Tuesday, especially after having performed so well just a few days ago, when the Italian champions pulled off a convincing win against Parma. Tonight, it was a totally different story though, as the Vecchia Signora disappointed in every possible manner and saw their unbeaten run in the league coming to an end.

What's more surprising is that Pirlo only changed two field players when looking at the team sheet from 3 days ago, bringing on Cuadrado for Danilo in defence, and Chiesa for Kulusevski in midfield/attack. The rest remained the same, except Buffon, who saw his starting spot returning to Szczesny's hands. Unlike the game in Parma however, very few things worked the way intended against Fiorentina, starting with the lack of intensity and attitude on the pitch...

Fiorentina's first blow in Turin was delivered shortly after the referee's initial whistle, when former Bayern Munich's star, Franck Ribery, found a huge gap in Juventus' defence and assisted Vlahovic with a great through pass. The Serbian striker showed good composure in front of Szczesny and despite a hard touch in the last moment of his run, he managed to finish it off with class, lobbing the ball over the Polish goalkeeper's body. 1-0 for "La Viola" and a tough night ahead for Juventus...

A shocking result...

Trailing by one and with the pressure on their shoulders to win this game and shorten the gap to AC Milan on the top of the table, Juventus' players tried to step up their game, increasing their aggressiveness levels when fighting for the ball. And it was precisely in one of those moments that Cuadrado misjudged one of his tackles and ended up hitting hard Castrovilli. The referee started by showing him a yellow card, but immediately got warned by the VAR that the Colombian should have seen a red card instead. After reviewing the incident, the referee changed his decision and showed Cuadrado the red card.

With man less on the pitch and trailing by one, the Italian champions needed something special in order turn things around. However, that special thing never happened and the only team celebrating anything at all this Tuesday would be Fiorentina. The visitors reached their second goal in the 76th minute of the game, when a dangerous cross sent into Juventus' box saw Alex Sandro deflecting it to his own goal and beating Szczesny. Everything was going wrong for Juventus and the nightmare wasn't over yet...

The third and last goal of the night came on another well-designed attack and this time the goalscorer was a former Juventus player, Martin Cáceres. The Uruguay international only had to strike the ball from short range after a good low cross from Biraghi and at that point, it seemed like Juventus had already given up fighting for a positive result. It was a harsh loss from Pirlo's men, who are now 6th in the Serie A, with one game in hand.
