A fair draw...
Juventus are still unbeaten in the Serie A, but after tonight's draw, they now have 12 games, 6 wins and 6 draws. The Bianconeri, who had won every single game played in December, two in Europe for the UEFA Champions League and another two in Italy for the domestic league, disappointed again this Wednesday as not only they slipped at home, but they have also shown weaknesses throughout the 90 minutes of the game.
Andreo Pirlo certainly hows strong Atalanta can be when properly motivated and in order to attempt avoiding surprises in Turin, he picked a very strong starting lineup. Ronaldo missed a decisive penalty-kick...
In a game where it was not expected neither side to establish a clear dominance over the other, the opening goal had an even more important meaning. With that in mind, the hosts did their job well and managed to break the deadlock in the 29th minute of the first half. The goal was delivered by one of Juventus' most-in-form players at this stage of the season, Federico Chiesa, who received a pass from Bentancur in attack and decided to try his luck from outside the box. His shot was very well placed into the top corner and there was not much Pierluigi Gollini could have done to stop it. That made it 1-0 to the Vecchia Signora, but with still a lot of gametime left to be played...
Naturally, Atalanta ended up assuming more risks and trying to dictate the pace of the game after they conceded the first goal, which not only allowed Juventus to keep creating scoring chances every now and then, but for the hosts to also threaten to score more often. Their efforts would eventually pay off in the second half, when Remo Freuler beat Szczesny with a brilliant strike using his right foot. The Swiss midfielder isn't known for scoring too many goals, but when he does score one, he makes sure it doesn't go unnoticed.
A few minutes after the equalizer, Juventus earned a penalty-kick, after the referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot when Chiesa was brought down inside the box. Cristiano Ronaldo, who had scored 4 goals from 4 penalty-kicks in his last 2 games, this time missed his chance and allowed Gollini to stop his shot and secure a motivating 1-1 draw in Turin for Atalanta.
