The Vecchia Signora bounced back from last week's home loss against Barcelona and tonight they dismantled Ferencvaros in a 4-1 win at the Groupama Arena, in Hungary. Cristiano Ronaldo had his Champions League debut for Juventus this season, following his forced absence in the first 2 rounds of the competition due to the Corona virus. After seeing how the former Real Madrid forward impacted Juve's game in the weekend against Spezia, everyone was expecting Ronaldo to have a similar influence tonight against Ferencvaros, especially if the Hungarian side decided to play an open game. However and despite having had several opportunities to write his name on the scoresheet tonight, Ronaldo will have to wait at least another 3 weeks to score his first goal in the competition this season.
Andrea Pirlo liked what he saw from Juventus game against Spezia last Saturday, so naturally he didn't change much pieces in his puzzle. Szczesny replaced Buffon as part of the rotation habit the Italian manager has implemented in goal and the back four had Cuadrado on the right, Danilo on the left, leaving the centre spots to the experienced Bonucci and Chiellini. In midfield, the Italian champions fielded Arthur, Rabiot and Ramsey, who supported an attack formed by Chiesa, Álvaro Morata and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo!
The fans didn't have to wait too long to see Juventus breaking the deadlock, as a great run from Cuadrado on the right paved the way for Morata to bury his first goal of the night. It's true the Spanish forward only had to push the ball into an empty net, but was at the right place at the right time and obviously made it count. Ronaldo had a slight interference on the play, as he attempted to backheel Cuadrado's pass and ended up tricking the hosts' defense.
Too much Juve for Ferencvaros...
The second half was all Juve, as Ferencvaros proved to be unable to react and put pressure on the Italian champions. The second goal for the visitors was scored again by Morata, this time after an assist provided by Ronaldo. The former Atletico Madrid forward delivered a great finish from just inside the box, curling the ball into the net with his right foot. It was probably Morata's best goal this season and his 6th for Juventus in all competitions.
The 3-0 came from a quite unusual play in the Champions League, as Ferencvaros goalkeeper failed to collect a dangerous pass from a teammate and saw the ball falling in Dybala's feet. The Argentine star, with just an empty net in front of him, had no problems in hitting the back of the net and scoring his first goal of the season for the Bianconeri.
As if one huge mistake wasn't enough, Ferencvaros's goalkeeper made a second capital error and once again, the player awarded was Dybala. The 26-year old forward placed his shot between Dibusz's legs and ended up seeing Lasha Dvali confirming his goal in a desperate attempt to clear the ball away. The hosts still managed to score a goal to reward the home fans near the end of the game, but the script wasn't going to change anymore as Juventus grabbed the 3 points and finished the game comfortably with a 4-1 win.
