20.10.2020 » Dynamo Kiev 0-2 Juventus. A good start in Europe for the Bianconeri

Alvaro Morata scores for Juventus in the Champions League

The Champions League is back and Juventus made sure they would start their campaign with the right foot, after travelling to Ukraine to defeat Dynamo Kiev by 2-0. Alvaro Morata scored the two goals for the Bianconeri.

The Vecchia Signora debuted in this season's Champions League in the best possible way, after visiting Dynamo Kiev and collecting the 3 points thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win. In Cristiano Ronaldo's absence ― the Portuguese is still ineligible after having tested positive for COVID-19 ― it was Álvaro Morata who stepped up and marked the difference with two goals, allowing Juventus to confirm their favorite status prior to this evening's game. In the other game of the group, Barcelona made easy work of Ferencvaros and are now tied with Juventus on the top of the table, just a week before both teams clash in Turin.

Dynamo Kiev 0-2 Juventus - Goals and highlights:

Morata scores his first brace in Europe!

The same man that had rescued Juventus from a loss over the weekend showed up again and this time delivered the win and the 3 points to the Italian champions. Álvaro Morata is definitely making the most of his opportunities while Cristiano Ronaldo is still unavailable to give his contribution on the pitch and tonight, not only he managed to hand his team the victory, but for the first time in his career he also scored two goals in a single night in the UEFA Champions League.

With Dybala apparently fit to play, Andrea Pirlo surprised everyone once again and left the Argentine star on the bench. He also changed a few pieces in other areas of the pitch, starting with the goalkeeper spot, as Szczesny replaced Buffon. The defense was formed by Danilo, Bonucci, Chiellini and Cuadrado, while the Vecchia Signora's midfield had Rabiot, Bentancur and Aaron Ramsey lining up. Upfront, the same attack from the weekend as Kulusevski and Chiesa played more open and Morata assumed his centre forward role.

Injury-wise, it was not a very good night for the Italian champions. The team captain, Giorgio Chiellini, was forced to leave the pitch in the 19th minute and was replaced by Merih Demiral. The 36-year old defender has been plagued by injuries in recent years and there are concerns this new upset could end up sidelining him for multiple games ahead...

3 points earned before hosting Barcelona

After a goalless draw in the first half, Juventus' players entered the pitch for the second half more determined and they got rewarded for their attitude just a few instants later. Aarom Ramsey found Kulusevski just outside the box with a brilliant backheel touch and the 20-year old forced Dynamo's goalkeeper to block his shot but leave the ball bouncing in front of him. Álvaro Morata showed his killer instinct and reacted immediately to the rebound, smashing the ball into the back of the net to give Juventus the lead.

The second and final goal of the night only arrived in the 84th minute of the game and this time it would be Juan Cuadrado assisting Álvaro Morata for a clinical header. The former Real Madrid forward anticipated his teammate's cross to the heart of the box and with just the goalkeeper in front of him, he headed the ball in great style to beat Bushchan for the second time on the night and secure the 3 points for the Bianconeri.

Next week it's time for Juventus and Barcelona to lock horns at the Allianz Stadium and there are still hopes we may see Cristiano Ronaldo making his return to the football pitch. The Portuguese star is expected to make another COVID-19 test early next week and if the result comes out negative, he'll probably be in starting lineup against Barcelona.
