11.07.2020 » Juventus 2-2 Atalanta. Ronaldo rescues a point with two penalties!

Cristiano Ronaldo helps Juventus rescuing a point in a 2-2 draw vs Atalanta

Considering the way the game went, Juventus should be happy with the 2-2 home draw they earned tonight against Atalanta. The visitors may have been better on the pitch, but Cristiano Ronaldo two goals from the penalty spot rescued a valuable point for the Bianconeri.

It was a somewhat surprising game the one we watched at the Allianz Stadium tonight and it could have been a lot worse for Juventus if it weren't for the two penalty-kicks earned in the second half. The Bianconeri never really managed to dominate their opponent like they're used to in their Serie A matches and it was frustrating to see how Atalanta bossed the game in Juventus' own backyard. If you used any betting site like lsm99 to put your money on Juve prior to this game, you probably regretted it as soon as the clash started... The Bergamo side scored first, but Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo managed to get the equalizer twice tonight, always from the penalty spot. With tonight's 2-2 draw and since Lazio lost their game earlier on, Juventus managed to actually extend their lead to 8 points and is now closer to wrap up another Serie A title in the upcoming weeks...

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Atalanta:

Atalanta showcased their talent...

It was a highly motivated Atalanta side that stepped in to the Allianz Stadium this Saturday evening, as the Bergamo side came into this match with an 11-game winning streak in all competitions, 9 of those in the Serie A. Juventus, on the other hand, were coming off a surprising 4-2 loss against AC Milan at the San Siro and were looking to get back on the winning track as soon as possible...

For tonight's game, Sarri only changed a few pieces in his side, starting with the returns of De Ligt and Dybala, who had been suspended in Juve's last game against Milan. Against Atalanta, the Bianconeri start with Szczesny in goal, and then Danilo, Cuadrado, Bonucci and De Ligt in front of him. The champions' midfield was populated with Rabiot, Matuidi and Bentancur, while in the attacking front Bernardeschi, Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo completed the starting eleven.

The first half must have surprised most of us watching the game, as it almost looked like the players' shirts had been swapped and Juventus were wearing the green uniforms. Atalanta were by far the best side on the pitch in the first half, having more possession and creating more attacking plays than the Bianconeri. Of course, having no public in the stands during this post-covid era somehow levels things a bit when bigger clubs play at home and the truth is that Atalanta didn't show any signs of feeling the pressure of visiting the Italian champions stadium throughout the entire game...

Cristiano Ronaldo gets past a defender in Juve vs Atalanta

Atalanta scored first, but Juve reacted...

Without much surprise, Atalanta were the first ones to celebrate a goal tonight at the Allianz, as they have managed to beat Szczesny in the 16th minute of the first-half. The goalscorer was Duvan Zapata, the Colombian striker who already scored 15 goals in the league this season and who is about to complete his 7th straight season in the Serie A. The 29-year old forward showed all his strength and finishing skills when he picked up a pass from Papu Gómez inside Juve's box and beat Szczesny for the first time on the night.

Later in the second half and somehow a bit against the tide of the game, Juventus managed to earn a penalty-kick when a cross from Dybala deflected on a defender's arm inside Atalanta's box. The referee was very close to the play and immediately pointed to the spot, leaving Atalanta frustrated with the outcome. Cristiano Ronaldo, didn't mind much about it and grabbed this chance to restore the draw and reach his 27th league goal this season. The Portuguese forward has now scored in every of his last 6 Serie A games and is only 2 goals behind the league's top scorer, Ciro Immobile.

However, the visitors weren't happy with the draw and they kept pushing for another goal, which they eventually got. In the 80th minute of the game and after Sarri had already replaced Dybala for Gonzalo Higuaín, Muriel assisted Malinovskyi for a powerful strike just outside the box and Szczesny got beaten for the second time in this game. The visitors showed once again how good they are in the last third of the pitch...

Fortunately for Juventus, there were still a few minutes left on the clock to react and just like it had happened in the first equalizer, the Vecchia Signora managed to earn another penalty shot and Ronaldo didn't feel any pressure to make it 2-2 and rescue an important point for the Italian champions. That's now 28 goals for Ronaldo in the Serie A!
