30.06.2020 » Genoa 1-3 Juventus. Three wonder goals made it easy for Juve

Cristiano Ronaldo dedicates his goal against Genoa to a teammate

Juventus made no mistakes in their visit to Genoa this Tuesday night, as they beat the local side by 3-1 and kept Lazio at a 4-point distance in second place. Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa scored a goal each for the Vecchia Signora...

Juventus seem to have finally found the appropriate mindset to approach these last games of the season and the result was a convincing performance and another 3 points in the bag. If any sports betting site was generous enough to offer you good odds for a Juve win, you were certainly happy to see the Italian champions defeating Genoa by 3-1 at the Luigi Ferraris, thanks to goals from Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa. What was more surprising however, was the fact that each one of these goals could easily be selected as one of the best goals of the season in the Serie A. The Bianconeri looked a totally different side from what we have seen in the past few weeks and Maurizio Sarri is certainly going to sleep better tonight, after seeing his pupils dominating and beating a tough opponent in such a crucial stage of the season.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Genoa:

A good first half...

Tonight, Juventus had quite a good first half against Genoa, despite not being able to score and get the lead before the half-time break. The Bianconeri had the attacking initiative throughout the first 45 minutes, creating multiple chances to score and giving Genoa's goalkeeper a lot of work to do. However, for one reason or another, the Italian champions couldn't get the much-wanted goal and had to settle with a goalless draw ahead of the second half...

In terms of Juventus' starting lineup, only one change was made when we look back at the eleven players that started against Lecce last Friday. Szczesny was the goalkeeper on the night, with a defense formed by Cuadrado, Bonucci, De Ligt and Danilo. The Brazilian played as left-back and was precisely the only change in Sarri's starting eleven. In midfield, Rabiot, Bentancur and Pjanic filled the gaps, even though the Bosnian was recently confirmed as Barcelona's new signing for next season. Upfront, Bernardeschi played next to the team's biggest stars, Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the first 45 minutes, despite Juventus 11 shots and 5 of them being on target, the scoreline didn't change. Ronaldo alone had several attempts to score, but saw Mattia Perin, Juve's former goalkeeper, stopping most of them...

The wonder goals were reserved for the second half

After such a good performance on the first half without materializing the superiority over Genoa, there were a few concerns that Juve could slow down the tempo and let the hosts become more confident in the second half. However, rest assured that didn't happen at all...

The Bianconeri continued bossing the game and it wouldn't take them too long to break the deadlock. One of Juve's most in-form players since the team returned to competition a few weeks ago, Paulo Dybala, snaked through a few defenders just before hitting the ball low and hard at the goal, to put Juventus on the lead for the first time on the night. Curiously, Dybala was one of the few players in the Serie A to have tested positive to Covid-19 (Corona-virus) during the competition's stoppage between March and June.

The second goal would come shortly after and this time we witnesssed a Ronaldo vintage moment. The Portuguese forward moved forward with the ball a few meters just before striking from way outside the box and extend Juve's lead to two goals. It was Ronaldo's first goal from open play since football returned in Italy. It was also his third consecutive game scoring for the Vecchia Signora.

In the 73rd minute of the game, another moment of brilliance from a Juventus player made the scoreline change once again. This time, the spotlight turned on Douglas Costa, as the Brazilian curled a perfect shot into the top corner of Perin's goal to make it 3-0 for the Bianconeri. For the first time since football action returned in Italy, Juve was finally convincing. Genoa would still score a lonely goal in the 76th minute, but that didn't change a single note in this game's storyline.
