05.03.2020 » What bets can you take on Ronaldo in 2020?
This year is set to be a big one in the football world with EURO 2020 approaching fast. Not only that, but the best players in Europe will be taking part in the Nations League again towards the end of the year, so there is going to be a lot of international football to watch. Cristiano Ronaldo has the world record for most international goals in his sights and, despite recently marking his 35th birthday, there are few signs he is ready to start slowing down. While domestic and European success with Juventus is top of the short-term agenda for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, he will have Portugal duty on his mind as well. Portugal will be defending both their European Championship and Nations League titles with Ronaldo still the star man for Fernando Santos' side, despite the emergence of João Felix. So what bets can you make on Ronaldo in 2020? Let's take a look...
Cristiano Ronaldo - Destroying players:
Will Portugal triumph again at Euro 2020?
Portugal were surprise winners at Euro 2016, defeating France in the final during extra-time with Éder scoring the winning goal to claim glory.
Of course, Ronaldo had to watch the majority of the game from the touchline after succumbing to injury, so he will be desperate to stay fit and help his team-mates out at this year's event. Ronaldo's advanced age means it may be difficult for him to complete a full 90 minutes throughout the tournament, though, so it will be interesting to see how Santos manages him.
Regardless of any fitness concerns, Ronaldo is among the favourites to be the top goalscorer at the EURO 2020 this year, with odds of around the 10/1 mark available on the Portugal star. Only England's Harry Kane - winner of the World Cup Golden Boot two years ago - is a shorter price.
Ronaldo has played at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions of the tournament and has scored nine goals in the European Championship so far. Only Michel Platini of France has scored more time in the competition's history, though Ronaldo's goals per game record in the tournament is not as high as many might expect of him.
Ronaldo is also among the leading players expected to be in contention for the Best Player Of The Tournament prize, with odds of 25/1 available on him to add the trophy to his collection.
Portugal may be undervalued in the betting odds for EURO 2020 this year, with 16/1 available for Santos' men to defend their title. There are seven countries deemed to be more likely to win the tournament despite the fact Portugal have already shown they can win it.
Can Ronaldo win another Ballon d'Or?
Ronaldo's great rival Lionel Messi moved ahead in their individual battle by claiming his sixth Ballon d'Or, a record tally that the Portuguese will no doubt be aiming to match in 2020.
While it is still far too early in the year to be considering the contenders for the award, Messi and Ronaldo are again likely to be the front-runners along with players like Kylian Mbappe.
How Portugal perform at the EURO 2020 could have a big impact on Ronaldo's chances and if Juventus were to win the Champions League, this could build a big case for him to win too.
At 4/1 in the betting odds for the 2020 Ballon d'Or, the bookmakers initially have Messi as the favourite, with Man City's Kevin De Bruyne among the other names in the frame, alongside Liverpool stars such as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who was in the mix last year.
Gambling on individual awards such as the Ballon d'Or is not that popular at the minute and, as always, anyone placing bets on the sport has to be aware of the risks involved in doing so.
Buyer beware is not only for sports betters as gamblers need to be aware of the best bonuses with no deposit often offered by online casinos. These come with a sting in the tail which are hidden wagering requirements.
It may also be the case that some unscrupulous online casinos sell "fixed" games that are fake, while many people hype up sports betting strategies that simply do not work.
What is for sure is that during 2020, Ronaldo will be attracting a lot of betting attention again...
