18.12.2019 » Sampdoria 1-2 Juventus. Ronaldo's superb header gives Juve the win

Cristiano Ronaldo header goal in Sampdoria 1-2 Juventus in the Serie A in 2019

Juventus have grabbed the 3 points in their trip to Genova, beating Sampdoria by 2-1 and holding on to the top spot in the Serie A for at least another week. Cristiano Ronaldo scored one of his best headers ever, when he delivered the winning goal to the Italian champions.

Another game for Juventus in the Serie A and another 3 points in the bag for the Vecchia Signora. Tonight, the champions didn't make it easy for their opponents and they defeated Sampdoria by 2-1, thanks to a goal from Paulo Dybala and another from Cristiano Ronaldo. The headlines, however, will be all about Ronaldo's magnificent goal. The Portuguese forward jumped really high in the air, floated for a few seconds and then headed the ball into the back of the net, leaving everyone in the stadium with stunned expressions on their faces. This win, as predicted by betting experts from PowerPlay, allows Juventus to stay on top of the table in the Serie A until next year, regardless of Inter's result against Genova, a game scheduled for next Saturday.

A possession game away from home...

Very few times this season Juventus has had a game with so much possession as today. The visitors finished the game with 71% possession, which inevitably led to a patience game from the champions. In terms of scoring opportunities however, things were a bit more even and the Bianconeri marked the difference thanks to terrific goals from both Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite this weekend's Supercoppa game against Lazio, Maurizzio Sarri didn't rotate any of his key players and played a very strong lineup in Genova. Buffon, who played in goal and completed his 647th game in the Serie A, tied Paolo Maldini's record for the most appearances in Italy's main league. In defence, the only change was Alex Sandro for De Sciglio, as Danilo, Bonucci and Demiral all kept their starting spots. In midfield, Bentancur was dropped for Pjanic and teamed up with with Matuidi and Rabiot. Upfront, Sarri played his magic trio once again, as he unleashed all the talent at his disposal with Dybala, Higuaín and Cristiano Ronaldo all starting.

The opener was scored quite early in the game, around the 19th minute of the first half. Alex Sandro made a long pass to Dybala near one of the edges of the box and the Argentine pulled off a stunning volley with his left foot, beating Emil Audero for the first time on the night. The 26-year is in great form and already scored 8 goals this season.

However, the hosts didn't turn their back to the fight and they would reach the equalizer in the 35th minute. Alex Sandro, who had assisted Dybala for the opener just a few minutes earlier, lost the ball in a forbidden area of the pitch and allowed Sampdoria to immediately look for the goal. The Brazilian defender still managed to clear the ball away a few seconds later, but he ended up assisting Caprari in the heart of the box, who struck the ball to the back of the net to put game back to square one!

But that wasn't it for the first half... When everyone thought they had seen it all in the first 45 minutes, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to deliver what will certainly go down as one of his best goals of his career. Just like in the first goal, Alex Sandro sent in a long cross from the left which found Cristiano Ronaldo marked on the far post. The Portuguese, however, didn't mind about any human around him at the time and jumped high in the air, floated for almost 2 seconds and headed the ball to the opposite post. 2-1 for Juventus and another memorable moment in Cristiano Ronaldo's journey...

In the second half, the Italian champions resisted to the hosts' multiple attacks and even though the game was more even than the first half, no more goals would be scored. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, scored his 6th goal in his last 5 games and is definitely improving his form as we approach the decisive stages of the season...
