01.12.2019 » Juventus 2-2 Sassuolo. The champions were stopped at home!

Cristiano Ronaldo getting cold in Turin

Juventus were surprised at home this Sunday morning, as they hosted Sassuolo and couldn't go beyond a 2-2 draw against the visitors. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the last goal in this game from the penalty spot, but the champions lost 2 points in the title race...

We can't say we didn't see this coming... Juventus have once again struggled in a Serie A game, but this time there was no savior showing up to rescue the win and the Italian champions dropped 2 important points in the title race against Inter Milan. Today's 2-2 draw against Sassuolo allowed Inter to steal the top spot in the Serie A table and the Vecchia Signora need to realize before it's too late that they are not competing in a minor league like the Liga Indonesia and simply start performing a lot better than they have in the past. Leonardo Bonucci in the first half and Cristiano Ronaldo from the penalty spot later in the second half scored the Italian champions goals in today's game.

Several changes broke the team's chemistry

It's been a recurrent episode in Juventus' campaign this season. The Italian giants go into every game labelled as favorites, but for one reason or another, they fail to dominate their opponents and grab a comfortable win. If you had the chance to go through MerryBet mobile review prior to this game and bet on the draw, you are certainly happy with the outcome. However, today not only Juventus they didn't get the 3 points, as they have also allowed the visitors to leave Turin with a shocking 2-2 draw that opened the gates for Inter to take the Serie A's leadership.

Following a very competitive game in the middle of the week against Atletico Madrid, Maurizio Sarri were determined to refresh his team and so he decided to rotate several players from his starting lineup. Starting with the goalkeeper position, as he replaced Szczesny for Buffon. The fullbacks were also changed, as Alex Sandro and Cuadrado played on the sidelines, while the center was guarded by De Ligt and Bonucci. In midfield, only Pjanic and Bentancur remained on the lineup, as Sarri decided to play Emre Can and Bernardeschi next to them. Upfront, Dybala was sent to the bench so Higuaín could start next to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The first half was very even, with both sides creating good chances to score. The hosts would be the first ones to crack into the scoring column, when Leonardo Bonucci decided to go forward and strike a low shot from just outside the box to beat Stefano Turati for the first time on the night. The champions' joy didn't last long though, as just two minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Jérémie Boga made things level with a superb finish by lobbing the ball over Buffon. Back to square one!

Ronaldo scores his 6th Serie A goal...

With a 1-1 draw at half-time and with the champions playing at home and needing the win to defend their leadership in the league, everyone expected a dominant second half from the hosts. However, those plans were somehow ruined with just 2 minutes played after the break and the truth is that Juventus players can't blame no one but themselves...

It's hard to describe everything that led to Sassuolo's second goal in this game, but if we stick to a factual analysis, Cuadrado, De Ligt and Buffon all messed up in different actions on the pitch and the result was another goal conceded. First, Cuadrado played a suicidal pass-back, leaving De Lidt in a tough spot. The Dutch defender, who costed the Bianconeri 75 million euros in the summer, made a poor clearance and delivered the ball to Sassuolo's forward, Francesco Caputo. The Italian forward didn't lose time to prepare his shot and try his luck, hoping to surprise a very experienced Gianluigi Buffon. The 41-year goalkeeper failed to block the weak shot efficiently and saw the ball rolling above his body and all the way into the back of the net. Just like that, the visitors were in front...

Sarri and Juventus turned their raging mode on and a few minutes later Matuidi and Dybala were subbed in to help with the expected attacking avalanche. It was precisely the Argentine star who earned the penalty-kick that allowed the Vecchia Signora to equalize the game in the 68th minute and as usual, Cristiano Ronaldo converted it and gave no chance for the goalkeeper to reach the ball. The Portuguese forward scored his 6th Serie A goal this season, his 3rd from the penalty spot.

However, Ronaldo's goal didn't really scare Sassuolo and the visitors held on for the final 20 minutes and were happy to take a single point from this game. Next weekend Juventus returns to action against Lazio, hoping to regain the leadership in the Serie A.
