23.11.2019 » Atalanta 1-3 Juventus. Higuaín and Dybala ignited the comeback!
It definitely wasn't another walk in the park for Juventus, as the Italian champions travelled to Bergamo to face one of the best teams in the league, Atalanta, and with a bit of luck in the process, the Bianconeri managed to bring home the 3 points thanks to a 3-1 win. With Cristiano Ronaldo left out of Juventus squad due to a minor injury in one of his knees, Maurizzio Sarri had to rely on Higuaín and Dybala upfront. The Argentine duo ended up being decisive in this game, as they were the ones leading the comeback in the last quarter of the game. Today's win also allows Juve to go through the week in the first place of the Serie A and start focusing immediately on the UEFA Champions League bout against Atletico Madrid, scheduled for next Tuesday night.
Atalanta 1-3 Juventus - Goals and highlights:
A superior Atalanta side...
It took almost 75 minutes for Juventus to wake up and react in today's game in Bergamo. For the Vecchia Signora fans, today's three goals in such a short span of time were almost like poetry in motion and if you're looking for inspiration with words, you can always check this personal statement writing service. However, Maurizzio Sarri's men struggled to play their football against a very intense opponent and the truth is they can consider themselves lucky for only being 1 goal behind going into the last 15 minutes of the game. Atalanta created the best chances to score and always looked like the most dangerous side on the pitch during a big part of the game. Nevertheless, the champions resisted once again this season and responded cynically like they love doing...
In the preview of this game, two big absences made almost every headline as not only Juventus couldn't count with Cristiano Ronaldo but also Atalanta were deprived of their main star, Emiliano Zapata. The hosts, who have been in great attacking form this season, are 5th in the league but have the best attack in the country.
The first-half was goalless in Bergamo, but Atalanta had plenty of chances to write a different story. The hosts missed a penalty-kick in the 17th minute, then saw Szczesny saving a great header from Pasalic shortly after, just before wasting an even better chance when Hateboer had his shot miracously blocked by De Ligt. Atalanta was all over Juventus in the first half and Sarri probably missed Ronaldo in more than one occasion...
True champions never give up...
Without surprise, the opener was scored by the hosts shortly after the break, when Robin Gosens finished a good cross from the right with a powerful header that left Szcesny helpless on the far post. The German scored his 4th goal in the league and give his side a sense of relief after finally managing to beat the Polish goalkeeper. It was a goal from the best attacking side of the league against the best defensive side of the league.
The game never looked easy for the Turin side, but that's precisely when your big player have to turn up. With 74 minutes on the clock, a very messy play inside Atalanta's box led to a ball falling on Gonzalo Higuaín's foot and whenever that happens in a dangerous position, anything can happen. After a few rebounds, the former Real Madrid forward didn't hesitate to rotate and shoot, seeing his shot deflecting on a defender to trick the goalkeeper and hit the back of the net. A very fortunate goal, but Juve was glad to take it and immediately go after their second minutes after...
And so it happened just 8 minutes later! Higuaín finished off a low cross from Cuadrado coming from the right and put Juventus in the driving seat for the first time on the evening. It was his 4th goal in the Serie A this season!
The last nail in the coffin was hammered by Paulo Dybala deep inside added time, with the 26-year old showcasing his finishing skills in a fast counter-attack from the visitors. The Argentine forward cut inside looking for his stong foot (his left one) and once the defender gave him enough space to strike the ball, he fired a low shot and beat Atalanta's goalkeeper to make it 3-1 for Juventus. Now onto Atleti in the UEFA Champions League and hopefully with Cristiano Ronaldo back in the starting lineup!
