18.01.2015 » Getafe 0-3 Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo seals the win with a double

Real Madrid BBC, Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo

Carlo Ancelotti's troops visited the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this Sunday morning and managed to rescue the important 3 points back to Madrid, in great part thanks to a convincing performance in the 2nd half of the game. Cristiano Ronaldo added another brace to his personal tally, while Gareth Bale scored his 9th league goal this season.

Real Madrid confirmed their winter champions status in Spain, after coming closer to complete the first half of La Liga season with a 0-3 win against Getafe. By doing so, Carlo Ancelotti also cemented their leadership and are now 4 points clear off Barcelona (ahead of the Calatans game against Deportivo later today). Coming off a painful elimination in the Copa del Rey at the hands of city rivals Atletico Madrid, the Merengues pretty much needed a victory, as one needs to breathe. After a very slow and uninteresting first-half, goals started pouring in the second half when Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock following a great initiative by Benzema. Bale would then add a second a few minutes later and Ronaldo would seal the deal for good through a strong header in the 79th minute, setting the final score in 0-3 for Real Madrid.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Getafe:

Ancelotti made only one change to his side this Sunday morning (apart from Iker Casillas), as he was forced to switch the injured Pepe for Raphael Varane in the center of defense. The Frenchman played right next to Sergio Ramos, while Marcelo and Carvajal took over in the wings. In midfield, Kroos, Isco and James Rodríguez were Ancelotti's chosen ones to try to deliver the balance that this team seems to have been lacking ever since they returned from vacations. As for the attack, no surprises either since Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema teamed up with hopes of leaving their mark in the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

The first half showed us a very slow paced game, most likely as a consequence of the very unusual early time that this game was scheduled to (12PM in Spain). It was without much surprise that we reached half-time with a goalless scoreline and with neither of the teams producing enough quality football to score any goal.

The opener only arrived deep in the second half, through a terrific attacking play from the visitors. It started with Ronaldo running down on the right wing and putting a good cross to Isco just outside the box. The Spaniard then left it over to James Rodríguez, who quickly passed it to his left to Karim Benzema. The French striker ran past two defenders who he left seated on the ground and passed it back to Cristiano Ronaldo. The 29-year old easily tapped it in with his left foot and made 0-1 for Real Madrid.

With the deadlock broken, Getafe suddenly became more vulnerable. Just four minutes after Ronaldo's opener, Gareth Bale added a second to his side through a fast counter-attack. The assist came from the feet of James Rodríguez, who's cross was brilliantly finished by the former Tottenham winger on the far post. That was Bale's 9th goal in La Liga and having in mind the troubled times the Welshman has had in Madrid lately, it was good to see how Ronaldo rushed to congratulate his teammate with a big hug.

The last goal of the game would come around the 79th minute and it would be again the result of a brilliant assist by James Rodríguez. The Colombian midfielder picked out Cristiano Ronaldo in the heart of the box and the Real Madrid forward didn't waste such a golden chance to bury his second and reach his 28th league goal this season. With today's win, the Merengues made sure they'll be staying 4 points on top of Barcelona and 6 points above Atletico Madrid in La Liga standings, at least for a few more hours since both of them will still play their games later this Sunday...
