01.11.2014 » Granada 0-4 Real Madrid. Another beating delivered in La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring the opener in Granada vs Real Madrid

Today's visit to Granada turned out to be a walk in the park for Real Madrid, as Carlo Ancelotti's men ran over the local side with an easy 0-4 win. Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock early in the first half, but the victory only got confirmed when James Rodríguez, Benzema and Babin's own goal enhanced the differences between the two sides on the field.

This Saturday afternoon, Real Madrid reached their 11th straight win this season, after beating Granada away from home through a clear 0-4 score. The Merengues are on a splendid form going into November and one of the main responsibles for such feat is unquestionably Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star was precisely the one who got to strike the first blow to Granada and by doing so, he also scored his 17th goal in this La Liga's campaign. James Rodríguez and Benzema with a goal each, followed by an own goal from Babín, completed the scoreline in this weekend's opening league fixture. Next Wednesday, it's time for another Real Madrid vs Liverpool clash for the UEFA Champions League matchday 4, but before we turn our attention to the European agenda, there's still a Manchester City vs Manchester United derby worth watching for the Barclays Premier League, taking place this Sunday afternoon.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Granada:

Real Madrid are definitely on a very hot-streak and have now scored 24 goals in their last 6 games. Their last victim was Granada, who clearly lacked the strategy and the weapons to deny the Merengues another avalanche of goals. The European champions lined-up with Casillas in goal, Marcelo and Carvajal as full backs, with Pepe standing next to Sergio Ramos in the center. In midfield it was up to Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco and James Rodríguez to run the show, while Cristiano Ronaldo teamed up with Benzema more upfront.

The Merengues dominated the game with authority and it's no shock that when we look at the post-match stats we can see they've finished it with 67% of ball possession. And they've actually started dictating their terms very early in the game, when Cristiano Ronaldo opened the score through a clinical right-foot finish. The 29-year old was assisted by Karim Benzema shortly after seeing Carvajal stealing the possession a few meters outside Granada's box, and scored his 22nd goal of the season with relative ease.

The second goal of the game was a pure piece of art from Real Madrid's new signing, James Rodríguez. The Colombian star picked up a nifty pass from Benzema after a throw-in performed by Carvajal on the right sideline, and as he saw the ball bouncing near one of the edges of the box, his instinct was to go for goal and aim his shot to the far post. His strike only stopped in the back of the net and besides having been one of James best goals for Real Madrid so far, it was also his 6th for the club since the the season began in last August.

The match went into half-time with a 2-0 score in favour of Real Madrid, but that didn't mean the visitors would slow down their efforts to keep chasing more goals after the break. Around the 54th minute of the game, it was time for Cristiano Ronaldo to return the gesture to Karim Benzema, as both players switched the assister and goalscorer roles. With a spectacular back-heel touch, Ronaldo served up the ball on a platter to the Frenchman and the former Lyon forward confirmed his great moment by striking the ball past Roberto Fernandez, maing it 0-3 for the Merengues.

The last goal of the game arrived late in the second half and it ended up being the result of a bad clearance from a Granada defender. Karim Benzema found Arbeloa running free on the right and the right-back did what he is supposed to do in those circumstances, which is crossing the ball to the middle of the box where a couple of his teammates were already in good position to finish it off. However, the pass aimed for Ronaldo was slightly misdirected and the Portuguese forward only managed to give a little touch on the ball at the same time he didn't avoid losing his balance and going to the ground. The deflection seems to have been enough to send the ball on the course of the goal though and thanks to James Rodríguez pressure, Babin's sliding tackle led to an unfortunate own-goal.

With this Saturday's win, Real Madrid are now on the top of La Liga standings with 24 points and 2 points clear from Barcelona, who surprisingly lost 0-1 against Celta de Vigo at the Camp Nou. Sevilla can still tie the Merengues in the standings though, but they'll have to beat Villarreal in a tough trip to the "El Madrigal" this Sunday morning.
