27.07.2013 » PSG 0-1 Real Madrid. Benzema goal took down the French champions

Karim Benzema stunning goal, in PSG vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid remains unbeaten on this pre-season campaign and this Saturday night, they got past PSG in Sweden, with a 1-0 result. Cristiano Ronaldo got his first full 90 minutes on the pitch, but it was Karim Benzema who scored the winning goal.

The Merengues landed in Sweden for a friendly match against PSG this Saturday afternoon and pulled off a 1-0 win. Mesut Ozil assisted Karim Benzema for the only goal in the game, around the 23rd minute of the first half. Cristiano Ronaldo completed the whole match without being substituted this time, but couldn't find the back in the net for the second straight game. Real Madrid will now carry on for their US tour pre-season campaign and will face the LA Galaxy next Wednesday (August 1), for the Guinness International Champions Cup.

0-1 Real Madrid goals and highlights:

Carlo Ancelotti is betting on a dynamic 4-4-2 formation to approach the beginning of the season. He made a couple changes on the line-up he had used against Lyon, switching Asier Illarramendi for Sami Khedira and Angel Di María for Mesut Ozil. Nothing changed on the back nor the attack, where Cristiano Ronaldo partnered up with Karim Benzema.

With the French League ("Ligue 1") close to its kickoff, one would expect for PSG to present themselves in a better condition by now. It had already been the case with Olympique Lyon three days ago, but Laurent Blanc's side ended up proving that they are still warming up the engines this early in the season. The French champions still weren't able to count with their new additions to the team, as both Cavani (former Napoli striker) and Marquinhos (a promising Brazilian centre defender) sitted out for this game against the Merengues.

Real Madrid were also deprived from several usual starters though, since the Spanish internationals as well as the left-back Marcelo, are yet to be fully fit to start competing, since they've only joined the team's training deep in July. Ancelotti should have everyone available next week though, when the Merengues head on to the United States, for their traditional American pre-season tour.

The lonely goal of this match arrived near the 23rd minute, in one of those tradermark counter-attack plays that Real Madrid loves to carry through. Mesut Ozil cutted inside looking for some space, spotted Karim Benzema getting away from his marking and delivered him a low pass. The Frenchman finally showed his quality this pre-season and fired away a strong and precise shot into the low corner of Sirigu's goal. The game could have gone either way by then, but the Merengues ended up being rewarded for showing more effectiveness in front of goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo found himself in a good position to score for a couple of times, but saw the opponent's goalkeeper always denying him his third goal of the pre-season. Carlo Ancelotti is insisting on placing Ronaldo on a more centre role on the pitch, near the traditional number #9 position. So far, the Portuguese star has been struggling a bit to adapt to the team's attacking movements and find the space he needs to make the difference. However, only time will tell if this decision can actually pay off, in case for example that another player like Gareth Bale ends up signing for the Merengues and Ancelotti decides to play with an attacking trio composed by Di María and Bale on the wings and Ronaldo on the center.
