14.11.2011 » Pauleta: "PSG should try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo"

Pauleta in PSG

One of the best Portuguese strikers of all-time, Pedro Pauleta, confessed that he talked with Paris Saint-German new owners and that he recommended them to sign Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. PSG last summer signings of Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez and Kevin Gameiro were just the first wave of a big investment planned by the "Qatar Investment Authority", who now controls the destiny of the French side.

Pedro Pauleta, one of the best Portuguese strikers of his generation, is now retired from professional football, but still has a special place on his heart for the French side, PSG. Pauleta recently revealed that he talked with the club's owners and advised them to attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. PSG is currently owned by the "Qatar Investment Authority" and money doesn't seem to be a problem when it comes to entice the best football players in the World to come and play in the "Parc des Princes", in Paris.

Pedro Miguel Carreiro Resendes, mostly known as just "Pauleta", is a 38 years old former Portuguese player, that surprisingly never had the chance to play in the Portuguese First Division. However, Pauleta had a remarkable career, having played in clubs such as Deportivo de la Coruña, Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Portuguese striker won the Spanish "La Liga" in 1999-2000, as well as two French "Ligue 1" in 2001-02 and 2007-08. With a special flair for goal, Pauleta became "Ligue 1" top goalscorer in 3 different times: 2001-02, 2005-06 and 2006-07. However, his greatest achievement has been made in the Portuguese National Team since Pauleta remains being Portugal's highest goalscorer of all-time, with 47 goals out of 88 appearences. Cristiano Ronaldo is currently ranked 4th and still 17 goals behind Pedro Pauleta.

Pedro Pauleta celebrating a goal with arms wide open for Portugal

Pedro Pauleta: "The arrival of this group of investors from Qatar (Qatar Investment Authority) has definitely been good for PSG. Everyone is happy on the club. They already proved to have the necessary ammount of money to bring to Paris the best football players in the World and I had the opportunity to tell them to attempt signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid", revealed the former PSG forward, even though he's probably aware that money won't be enough for Cristiano Ronaldo to consider leaving Real Madrid at this point of his career.

Pauleta, who was born in a Portuguese island called Açores and who scored 76 goals in 168 appearences for Paris Saint-Germain, also left a few comments on PSG current form in the French League. Pauleta: "I'm very happy to see PSG again on top. Our supporters deserve this sort of joys and success. The arrival of very competent and responsible people such as Leonardo (football director in PSG), has definately had a great importance on the path the club is following now", said the Portuguese forward. PSG has brought in a few big names this last summer, including the Argentinian Javier Pastore and the French stars Kevin Gameiro and Jeremy Menez. The club is leading the French League so far, with 30 points earned in 13 matches.
